Promotes joint, cell, and arterial health5-lipoxygenase ( 5-LOX ) is a member of the lipoxygenase family of enzymes. It transforms fatty acids into leukotrienes and, as we age, its levels increase. Excess levels of the enzyme 5-LOX sets in motion inflammatory responses that have been linked to ageing-related effects. nFoods rich in omega-6 fatty acids like red meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products, trigger overproduction of arachidonic acid. In response to high levels of arachidonic acid, the body produces the 5-LOX enzyme. 5-LOX converts arachidonic acid to pro-inflammatory compounds like leukotriene B4, a molecule that mediates attacks to joints, arterial walls and other tissues. The good news is that an extract of the Indian plant Boswellia serrata has been shown to neutralise 5-LOX. Used for centuries to help with inflammation, boswellia acts as a natural 5-LOX inhibitor that blocks its unwanted effects. A boswellia compound called AKBA (3-O-acetyl-11-keto-ß-boswellic acid) seems to be the key behind its beneficial action. The problem is that boswellia is poorly absorbed into the blood. For this reason, a form of boswellia called AprèsFlex® is introduced, which absorbs into the blood much better than previously available boswellia extracts. Each 100 mg vegetarian capsule of 5-LOX Inhibitor with AprèsFlex® provides sufficient active AKBA for one day.
